CLEAR LIFE MEDIA ADDS BLACKMAGIC REPLAY FOR SPORTS STREAMING

Texas production company competes for larger productions with full Blackmagic Design workflow.

Manchester, United Kingdom - Wednesday, February 12, 2025 - Blackmagic Design today announced that Clear Life Media has added Blackmagic Replay and DaVinci Resolve Replay Editor to its football and combat sports broadcasts and live streams. The new solution joins the award winning media production company’s full Blackmagic Design workflow and provides the ability to quickly convert replays into promos, title sequences and instant social media updates.

One of the fastest growing video production companies in Texas, Clear Life Media has grown from handling smaller local productions to becoming one of the most sought after names in live streaming combat sports. This includes high quality multicamera productions for the company’s own “Clear Life Combat” on demand channel, as well as the popular “Game of the Week” for high school football productions.

The company also recently finished construction of a 2,000 square foot streaming, TV and podcasting studio and a new live fiber based broadcast mobile trailer. Both of these were built around a workflow that includes Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 camera and Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K digital film cameras, ATEM Constellation HD live production switchers, Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converters, DaVinci Resolve editing, color grading, visual effects (VFX) and audio post production software, HyperDeck Studio HD Mini disk recorders, UltraStudio 4K Mini capture and playback devices, Blackmagic Cloud Store and Blackmagic Cloud Pod network attached storage solutions and Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K streaming encoders.

Curt Casper, an owner and head of production for Clear Life Media, began using Blackmagic Design products in 2019. He started using Blackmagic Replay in the fall of 2024 with the “Game of the Week” program, which is more than just a broadcast of the game but also a deeper look into both schools with interviews with teachers, students and coaches.

“Before using Blackmagic Replay we weren't able to financially afford the cost of using replay, and our productions were not as good as they could be. The benefits of using Blackmagic Replay were immediate, and we were able to take advantage of the Blackmagic products we already had in place so the addition of replay was simple,” Casper explained. “The addition also allowed us to be able to compete for bigger state and national events, including Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boys and the November Professional and Amateur MMA and Kickboxing Elevate Fight Night 5.”

Using the DaVinci Resolve Replay Editor hardware control panel, Clear Life Media has been able to combine both replay and multicam editing. This has allowed the company to not only show replays live, but also quickly convert those replays for other uses.

Ease of use was important for Casper, who often works with different crews. “Replay and the Replay Editor are very easy for us to use. So easy that I was able to have a new replay operator learn the controls and effectively run it for a high school broadcast the day of the event.”

He continued: “The immediacy of being able to use the replays across social media really sets us apart. We recently had a couple of knockouts during mixed martial arts streams. We captured the knockout, created the replay and added them to our Resolve timeline. Then it was a simple adjustment to the timeline to make it vertical and then exported it to YouTube and Instagram. The fighter told us that he was getting back to his phone after his fight and saw that he was already tagged in the video. He was shocked at how fast we had that ready to go!”

“Combat sports production is all about being prepared for something amazing to happen at any moment,” he said. “At Clear Life we have become experts at placing Blackmagic cameras around and above the rings so that we can capture everything. And now with Blackmagic Replay we can do even more with the footage we work so hard to get. Having footage from fights immediately able to be put on social media helps us promote the PPV, leading to more revenue and awareness of the broadcasts.”

Casper concluded: “One thing about Blackmagic Replay that I am excited to implement in the future is we will be able to have an editor working in the arena that can take clips from the broadcast and post to social media. This would be outside the replay for the broadcasts because we use the Blackmagic Cloud Pod and anyone on the same network can access the footage on Davinci Resolve.”
