ARTISTIC HIVE LAUNCHES TRAINING WITH DAVINCI RESOLVE STUDIO

Education platform offers high end, craft first training from top working colorists.

Fremont, CA, USA - Thursday, June 4, 2026 - Blackmagic Design today announced that Senior Colorist Natasha Leonnet and Dailies/Onset Colorist and Filmmaker Matteo Martignago have created a new, long form course built around DaVinci Resolve Studio editing, grading, visual effects (VFX) and audio post production software, designed to help colorists build a stronger eye, a clear methodology and the confidence to make creative decisions under real world constraints.

Offered through Artistic Hive, the education platform founded by Martignago, the program is designed to help artists learn directly from working professionals through in depth courses built around practical craft and real process.

Leonnet brings over 20 years of high end finishing experience to the class, with award winning work that includes two HPA Awards for Outstanding Color Grading for “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” along with additional HPA nominations for projects that include “Mulan,” “First Man,” “Hidden Figures” and “Whiplash.”

Leonnet has worked across a wide range of color systems over the years, but DaVinci Resolve Studio quickly became her preferred tool, both for its speed and the freedom it gives colorists to work in layers without locking into a single methodology. “DaVinci Resolve gives you several different paths to one correction, so the system does not mandate one methodology. You can try many different corrections and layer them, and you will not break the image,” said Leonnet. “It is extremely fast, which is crucial for a colorist’s work, and the UI is simple to navigate.”

Martignago developed the course after attending Leonnet’s classes at the New York Film Academy during his master’s program, wanting to create a training course that feels more like a rigorous, university style experience than a typical online tutorial.

He chose DaVinci Resolve Studio as the foundation for the class, citing its clarity. “DaVinci Resolve was the first software I learned when it came to color correction, and I was always surprised by how simple and intuitive the interface felt. It never felt like it was getting in the way,” Martignago said. “The simplicity allows you to focus much more on the creative part of the craft.”

The course leans heavily into fundamentals, with a focus on primaries, printer lights, color acuity and continuity, and the idea that great color work is both technical and deeply artistic. Leonnet also built exercises into the class designed to strengthen a student’s ability to see subtle changes and make intentional choices that support the filmmakers’ work.

To keep the learning experience active and conversational, the course includes group calls where students can ask questions directly and talk through grading decisions. For students in the US, the course also includes a physical box of materials intended to create focus and intention, along with a companion book that highlights moments in the history of color and cinema while exploring more advanced DaVinci Resolve Studio concepts.
