Smooth pan, tilt,
The expansion port features PTZ output so you can attach the camera to motorized heads. PTZ communication uses the RS-485 protocol, which is an industrial strength version of RS-422. Pan, tilt and zoom commands can be sent from an ATEM switcher over SDI to the camera. Servo lenses are smoothly zoomed directly from the camera, while the pan, tilt and zoom commands are also sent from the expansion ports PTZ output to a compatible motorized head.
B4 Broadcast Lens Control
Control the broadcast lenses you already own
The expansion port includes a B4 lens control data link which is the same protocol used to control modern broadcast lenses. By adding an MFT to B4 lens mount adapter and a Blackmagic B4 lens control interface you’re now able to control ENG lenses from Canon, Fuji and others. The included breakout cable has a DB-9 connector which can be used to connect to the control interface module which handles communication with the lens. This open style design means that lens control interfaces can also be created by 3rd parties for any kind of broadcast lens control situation, even older ENG analog lenses!
Futaba's highly accurate 18 channel radio control system
Futaba’s S.Bus is a highly accurate, digital radio remote control system that can also be used to control servos that in turn adjust focus, iris, servo zoom or any camera setting. The S.Bus protocol uses 1 connection to control up to 18 channels and each of these channels can be mapped to a camera function. Most often used for radio remote control of airplane and helicopter models, S.Bus receivers and decoders can be found in most major hobby stores online. The S.Bus control input is a great way to interface camera functions when you want to develop your own sophisticated custom camera control solutions.
The universal wired remote control standard
LANC is a universal standard supported by hundreds of equipment manufacturers for controlling things like camera start and stop, as well as various lenses and accessories. The expansion port’s breakout cable includes an industry standard LANC connection so you can add external lens controllers for your active MFT lenses. That means, depending on your lens, you could get wired remote control over things like iris, focus and servo zooms.
Blackburst and Tri-Sync
The expansion port includes a reference input that is compatible with tri-sync and blackburst for locking the camera to the sync generator in your facility. Once the reference signal is provided, the Micro Studio Cameras will be frame aligned so you can cleanly switch between them, vitally important live production switchers that don’t include frame re-synchronizers on the SDI inputs. Even on switchers such as Blackmagic Design’s ATEM range, that do have re-synchronizers on each SDI input, connecting reference will allow the switcher to bypass the re-synchronizers and reduce video delay to virtually nothing.
Provide an external power feed to the camera
The external power input supports DC voltages ranging from 12V to 20V so you can connect to a wide range of power sources or even large custom battery packs when your camera is being located far away from a power source. Located on the breakout cable, the power input uses a standard DC jack so you can connect to any kind of plug pack power supply.

Remote control your camera from your switcher
The Micro Studio Camera 4K has a dedicated SDI program input that accepts camera control protocol as well as talkback and tally from the switcher, over a single cable. This means you can control your camera’s settings, built in color corrector, focus, iris and more remotely from your ATEM switcher! The camera control is very flexible and the camera doesn’t have to be running in the same video format as the program input, so you could even use the camera in Ultra HD while the camera control protocol is sent over a HD signal to the camera.
